Sandton Aerial Panoramic View

R1800,00

A sweeping aerial panorama of Sandton Central, Johannesburg, photographed on 15 June 2017, showing the remarkable contrast between Sandton’s dense commercial core and the established residential suburbs extending across the northern Johannesburg landscape. The image captures Sandton City, major office and hotel developments, residential complexes, landscaped neighbourhoods and the extensive urban fabric surrounding the business district.

The panorama provides a valuable historical record of Sandton’s skyline during a major period of development. Among the prominent buildings are Sandton City, Michelangelo Towers, and the emerging 140 West Streetdevelopment. At the time of photography, 140 West Street was nearing completion; the Paragon Architects-designed development officially opened in October 2017 and comprises two towers organised around a dramatic glazed atrium.

The photograph also captures the construction-era Sandton skyline before The Leonardo became the dominant high-rise landmark. Construction of The Leonardo was well underway during 2017, with the building eventually rising to 55 floors and approximately 234 metres. It surpassed Michelangelo Towers and the Sandton City spire in height during 2018.

Beyond the commercial centre, the panorama illustrates the distinctive urban character of Sandton: a concentrated high-rise business district surrounded by extensive low-density residential neighbourhoods, mature trees, schools, sporting facilities and open spaces. The image is particularly valuable as an architectural and urban-development record of Johannesburg before the completion of several major developments that now define the Sandton skyline.
