The Ngqura Container Terminal commenced operations in 2009 and was developed as a deep-water container transhipment hub serving international shipping routes. The terminal has four container berths, a depth of approximately 16 metres and ship-to-shore cranes capable of handling large container vessels.
The port forms an integral part of the Coega Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and is positioned approximately 20 km north-east of the former Port Elizabeth, now Gqeberha. The wider Port of Ngqura handles container, dry bulk, liquid bulk, automotive and breakbulk cargo, making it a significant logistics and industrial gateway for the Eastern Cape.
