Conradie Park, Pinelands, Cape Town

R1800,00

This aerial photograph captures Conradie Park in Pinelands, Cape Town, during the early construction phase of the landmark Better Living Model development. The 22-hectare site occupies the former Conradie Hospital precinct and was planned as an integrated mixed-use neighbourhood combining affordable and open-market housing, retail, schools, community facilities, sports amenities and extensive public open space. The project is a partnership between the Western Cape Government and private-sector developer Concor.

At the time of the photograph, much of the former hospital site remained undeveloped, with extensive earthworks, newly established roads and the first building foundations visible across the site. The masterplan, developed by dhk Architects and Jakupa Architects and Urban Designers, establishes a fine-grained urban grid connected by pedestrian routes, landscaped public spaces and the linear Grande Park along the Elsieskraal Canal. Heritage structures from the former Conradie Hospital were incorporated into the development strategy.

The elevated perspective also illustrates the strategic location of Conradie Park within Cape Town’s northern suburbs. The site is surrounded by established Pinelands and Maitland neighbourhoods, industrial areas and major transport infrastructure, with Table Mountain, Devil’s Peak and the Cape Peninsula mountain ranges dominating the western horizon.

Key Buildings & Landmarks Visible:

  • Conradie Hospital heritage precinct – historic hospital buildings within the development site, including the former hall, Nursing Administration building and porter’s lodge.
  • Mutual Park / Old Mutual campus – the substantial landscaped corporate office precinct immediately west of Conradie Park.
  • Maitland Cemetery – the extensive cemetery and landscaped burial grounds visible alongside the eastern portion of the development.
  • Epping Industria – major industrial and commercial buildings visible around the southern and eastern edges of the precinct.
  • Pinelands residential neighbourhoods – established suburban housing surrounding the development.
  • Elsieskraal Canal – the watercourse forming an important edge of the Conradie Park masterplan and future Grande Park.
  • Mutual and Thornton railway infrastructure – important public-transport connections serving the surrounding communities.
  • Table Mountain and Devil’s Peak – the dominant natural landmarks forming the spectacular Cape Town skyline backdrop.
