Castle Gate Precinct is a major mixed-use development in Pretoria East, located on the former Waterkloof Farm site between the N1, Van Ryneveld Avenue and Solomon Mahlangu Drive. Developed by Atterbury in partnership with The Carl Erasmus Trust, the precinct is planned as a large-scale live-work-play destination incorporating retail, offices, residential accommodation, medical facilities, hospitality and community amenities.
The first major phase, Castle Gate Lifestyle Centre, opened in November 2020 and introduced approximately 23,000 m² of retail space. The wider precinct has subsequently expanded with offices and a Planet Fitness gym, while Castle Gate Lifestyle opened in May 2024 with a further 24,000 m² of flagship retail space. The development also incorporates extensive open green areas, reflecting the masterplan’s emphasis on landscaped public space and pedestrian connectivity.
