Cape Town Container Terminal, Ben Schoeman Dock, Cape Town

R1800,00

This aerial photograph captures the Cape Town Container Terminal (CTCT) at the Port of Cape Town, with a Maersk container vessel berthed alongside the terminal’s ship-to-shore gantry cranes. Extensive container stacks, quay infrastructure and rubber-tyred gantry cranes fill the terminal area, illustrating the scale of the port’s container-handling operations.

The container terminal is located in Ben Schoeman Dock and forms a key part of the Port of Cape Town’s cargo-handling infrastructure. CTCT operations date back to 1977, when containerised cargo handling was introduced at the port. The terminal has become particularly important for the export of refrigerated and perishable cargo, including deciduous fruit and other fresh produce, while also handling a wide range of containerised imports and exports.

The terminal has undergone substantial modernisation, including quay extensions, berth deepening and the installation of larger ship-to-shore gantry cranes. Transnet’s upgrade programme has increased the terminal’s ability to accommodate larger container vessels and improve cargo-handling capacity. The photograph also shows the contrast between the highly industrialised container terminal in the foreground and the city’s commercial Foreshore and harbour facilities beyond.
