The conneXXion is located at 263B West Avenue, Die Hoewes, directly opposite the Centurion Gautrain station. Developed by Growthpoint Properties at a cost of approximately R600 million, the 18,500 m² headquarters comprises five office floors above four levels of structured basement parking and was completed in 2019. It consolidated Exxaro’s former Pretoria and Johannesburg offices into a single corporate headquarters accommodating up to approximately 1,000 employees.
Designed by AMA Architects, the building was conceived around Exxaro’s collaborative workplace philosophy, with a distinctive contemporary form, extensive glazing, landscaped terraces and strong connections to the surrounding public realm. Sustainability and occupant wellbeing were central to the design: the building achieved a 5-Star Green Star rating and subsequently received Silver WELL certification for Core and Shell. Features include energy-efficient systems, water-saving fixtures, rainwater harvesting, water-wise landscaping and spaces designed to encourage collaboration and movement.
The aerial perspective also highlights Centurion’s importance as a transit-oriented commercial node. The elevated Gautrain line and Centurion station sit immediately adjacent to the corporate and retail precinct, while major road corridors connect the area with Pretoria, Midrand and Johannesburg. The station opened in 2011 and forms part of the Gautrain’s north-south rapid-rail network.
