The development replaced the former Midmar Building and transformed the entire city block bounded by Strand, Chiappini, Rose and Castle Streets. Developed by Ingenuity Property Investments, the project was designed as a major mixed-use development incorporating residential apartments, offices, retail space and a Virgin Active gym.
The completed development became known as 117 on Strand, a 60-metre-high mixed-use building containing 117 apartments, premium-grade office accommodation and retail space. The project was completed in 2019 and subsequently received the SAPOA 2021 Mixed-Use Development Award.
Today, 117 on Strand remains a prominent mixed-use development on the boundary of the Cape Town CBD, De Waterkant and the historic Bo-Kaap, with apartments, offices, retail outlets and lifestyle facilities.
