The former Midmar Building was demolished to make way for a major mixed-use redevelopment at 117 Strand Street. The new development incorporated 117 residential apartments, retail space and premium-grade offices, together with a Virgin Active gym and extensive parking. The project was developed by Ingenuity Property Investments, with KMMA Architects as lead architect and Fabian Architects responsible for the heritage building component.
The completed development, known as 117 on Strand, was completed in 2019 and has become a prominent mixed-use building within the Cape Town CBD/De Waterkant area. Today, the property combines residential apartments, offices, retail and lifestyle facilities, while its location provides direct access to the Bo-Kaap, De Waterkant, Cape Town CBD and V&A Waterfront.
