Cape Town International Convention (CTICC), Foreshore, Cape Town

This aerial photograph captures the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) and the surrounding Foreshore precinct, with Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and Signal Hill forming a dramatic backdrop. The CTICC is one of Cape Town’s most significant modern landmarks and an important international conference and exhibition destination. The original CTICC opened in 2003 and was designed by a consortium of architects known as Foreshore Architects, with Van der Merwe Miszewski Architects (VDMMA) as lead design architect, alongside practices including Revel Fox and Partners and Stauch Vorster Architects.

The photograph also captures the transformation of the Foreshore into a major commercial district. The prominent Portside Tower, completed in 2014, rises above the CBD and was designed by dhk Architects and Louis Karol Architects. At 139 metres and 32 storeys, Portside became Cape Town’s tallest building and a defining feature of the modern city skyline.

The CTICC complex visible in the foreground incorporates both CTICC 1 and CTICC 2. CTICC 2, completed in 2017, added approximately 31,148 m² of floor area and was designed by SVA International, VDMMA and Makeka Design Lab. The expansion created additional exhibition and conference facilities and strengthened the architectural relationship between the convention centre and the surrounding Foreshore urban environment.
