Cape Town Container Terminal, Port of Cape Town, South Africa

This aerial photograph captures container-handling operations at the Cape Town Container Terminal (CTCT) within the Port of Cape Town. A large Maersk container vessel is berthed alongside the terminal, with ship-to-shore gantry cranes loading and unloading containers and extensive container stacking areas visible across the foreground. The terminal is located in the Ben Schoeman Dock, one of the principal operating areas of the Port of Cape Town.

The Cape Town Container Terminal has operated since 1977 and plays an important role in the Western Cape’s international trade, handling containerised cargo including fruit, wine, white goods and other imports and exports. The terminal has been upgraded substantially, including deeper container berths and modern ship-to-shore handling equipment capable of servicing large container vessels.

The photograph also provides a clear view of the specialised infrastructure required for modern container logistics, including quay cranes, container yards, service roads and marine berths. Beyond the terminal, additional harbour facilities and the Cape Town waterfront landscape can be seen, illustrating the scale and complexity of the Port of Cape Town as a major South African maritime gateway.
