High-Voltage Transmission Lines Near Kelvin Power Station, Johannesburg

This photograph captures an extensive high-voltage electricity transmission corridor in the eastern Johannesburg metropolitan area, with multiple lattice-steel transmission towers carrying numerous overhead circuits across the landscape. The photograph was taken near Kelvin Power Station in Kempton Park, with the power station’s distinctive cooling towers and industrial structures visible in the background. The concentration of transmission infrastructure illustrates the strategic importance of this area within the electricity network serving Johannesburg and the surrounding industrial and commercial centres of Gauteng.
