Eastgate Shopping Centre is a major super-regional retail complex in Bedfordview, east of Johannesburg, Gauteng. Opened in 1979, the centre was developed during the formative period of large-scale shopping-centre development in South Africa and was originally planned by Rapp & Maister. The complex occupies a prominent position alongside the R24 freeway, linking Johannesburg with O.R. Tambo International Airport.

The redevelopment also incorporated a major rooftop entertainment and cinema complex, requiring substantial new steel structures to be constructed above the existing shopping centre while the mall remained operational.
The architectural character visible from above reflects this evolution, combining the large-scale planning of the original late-1970s shopping centre with more contemporary additions and refurbished façades. The complex is fundamentally a retail and entertainment destination, with its extensive floor area, multi-level parking, internal circulation network and large-format commercial spaces arranged around a highly accessible suburban location. The surrounding road network is particularly significant, demonstrating how major South African shopping centres have developed as important components of metropolitan infrastructure.
