Alexandra Township

Alexandra Township, commonly known as Alex, is one of South Africa’s oldest and most historically significant townships. Established in 1912, Alexandra occupies a unique place in Johannesburg’s history as one of the few urban areas where Black South Africans were able to purchase land during the early twentieth century. Located adjacent to the city’s financial and commercial hubs, including Sandton, Alexandra has evolved into a vibrant, densely populated community with a rich cultural heritage and a resilient entrepreneurial spirit.
