Aérospatiale SA 341F2 Gazell

R1800,00

The Gazelle is one of the most recognisable helicopters developed by French aerospace manufacturer Sud Aviation, later incorporated into Aérospatiale. Designed during the 1960s, the SA 341 Gazelle became notable for its sleek aerodynamic fuselage, spacious cabin and innovative Fenestron enclosed anti-torque tail rotor. The Fenestron system, clearly visible in this photograph, replaced the conventional exposed tail rotor and became one of the defining characteristics of the Gazelle and a number of later Airbus helicopter designs.

The Gazelle has an important place in aviation history. Originally developed as a light utility and liaison helicopter, the type was subsequently produced in several military and civilian variants and operated by armed forces and civilian organisations around the world. Its compact design, relatively high cruise speed and distinctive appearance made it particularly successful in military reconnaissance, transport and training roles, while civilian examples continue to operate as private and specialist aircraft.

The aircraft’s Fenestron tail rotor is particularly prominent in the image. Developed by Sud Aviation, the enclosed rotor was intended to improve safety around the tail, reduce noise and provide aerodynamic advantages compared with a conventional exposed tail rotor. The technology became an important feature of helicopters produced by Aérospatiale and later Airbus Helicopters.
