This panoramic photograph captures the Sandton skyline in Johannesburg, Gauteng, during the blue hour, with the district’s illuminated commercial towers, hotels, residential buildings and busy road network creating a dramatic metropolitan cityscape. Photographed in August 2017, the image provides a particularly valuable architectural record of Sandton at a moment of significant transformation. The skyline already contained several of the precinct’s most recognisable landmarks, including Michelangelo Towers, the Sandton City complex and Sasol Place, while major new developments were still changing the profile of the central business district.
