Cape Town City Hall was designed by Henry Austin Reid and Frederick George Green. This Edwardian architecture styled building is built from honey-coloured oolitic limestone imported from Bath in England and was built in 1905.
On February 11, 1990, a few hours after his release from prison, the first president of democratic South Africa, Nelson Mandela made his first public speech after his release from the balcony of Cape Town City Hall.
