Located in Kempton Park within the City of Ekurhuleni, Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate is positioned close to O.R. Tambo International Airport and the R21 corridor linking Johannesburg and Pretoria. The estate is situated on land that was historically associated with agricultural holdings before being transformed into a large-scale residential and leisure development. The development covers approximately 800 hectares, creating an unusually spacious setting for a residential estate in the rapidly urbanising eastern Gauteng region. Its location provides access to Johannesburg, Pretoria and the East Rand while maintaining a strong emphasis on landscaped open space and wildlife. The estate’s own information describes its position as being approximately 15 kilometres from O.R. Tambo International Airport.

Serengeti was launched in 2006, and the development quickly established itself as one of Gauteng’s prominent golf estates. According to Nicklaus Design, the initial launch in May 2006 was exceptionally successful, with the first release of properties selling out within hours. The master plan was conceived as considerably more than a conventional residential estate, with provision for extensive residential development alongside golf, retail, education, hospitality, sporting and conservation facilities. The long-term plan envisaged approximately 1,700 private residences, a retail village, private school, office park and hotel and spa.

The defining recreational feature of the development is its Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course. Serengeti Golf Club opened in June 2009, with the 27-hole layout becoming the first 27-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature course in Gauteng. The golf environment is an important element of the estate’s identity, with fairways, landscaped areas, water hazards and naturalised grassland integrated into the wider residential landscape. Nicklaus Design identifies Serengeti as a significant development combining residential living with Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf, while other sources record the estate’s 27-hole golf offering and associated clubhouse facilities.
